I guess like most of us on here, I'm a bit of an obsessed maniac when it comes to doing work on my Alfa 33 – and I try to sort most things on it before they get bad (sometimes easier said than done), and the idea of going to a garage and pay seems alien to me! For a start, I don’t want to pay for some ignorant spotty kid to look at my precision machine, and further more don’t trust them to do any work on it whatsoever!
I live in a small flat, rented, in the centre of Bromsgrove (UK) that has two parking spaces allocated to me (I have lived there for just over a month). Of an evening I can be found doing various bits of maintenance to my red goddess in the hope one day she will purr like the Italian wild thing she’s supposed to be.
However, this weekend just passed, I was changing the brake pads when my landlord walked over and told me the “allocated parking spaces” were for parking only, and he did not want to see me “doing cars” on his property. I did think before that this might cause offence, but I guess I tested the water, and didn’t come out on top!
I’m guessing he can say I am not using the “allocated parking spaces” for their supposed purpose, and could use a line in my rental contract which says “the tenant must not take part in any activity which the landlord deems as causing nuisance” to stop me from “doing cars”.
What do you guys think about this?!?!? Is it feasible to rent a garage from someone, so I can continue my hobby unhindered? Is my landlord being unreasonable? Am I?
Don’t know why I’m telling you lot this, guess I just want to talk about it and gain a little sympathy!!! LOL!
Cheerz,

Well, for starters, I can only agree with you on doing maintenence work yourself.
Having it done at a garage, and the cost of an arm and a leg is just.. wrong.
About the parking-space thingey. I can't quite see his problem. If you make sure you dry up any oilspills, and don't have wrecks holding about, I can't see the problem.. Of course, if your space is allways a complete mess, I guess he's got a point.
Well, at least in Denmark, we have some "open workshops", where you can go and pay a small fee, to gain access to their tools, lifts, etc etc. That would certainly make your work a whole lot easier. Though I can see the problem if it's just small stuff.
Hope you figure something out. _________________ //Wizz

My word! "open garages" we could certainly do with something like that in the UK.... sounds excellent.
Unfortunately, I don't think it would ever happen, as we have so much red tape regarding health and safety and insurance, that no such place could ever be viable!
Maybe I'll move to Kobenhavn!
