I've been using premium unleaded in my 91 33 for ages, howefer last week i put the normal unleaded in my car and i noticed that the car is very jumpy and jerky in all gear change i.e if i accelerate hard the car feels like going to stall. I topped it up in the premium unleaded today. Still feels jumpy. Has any one had problem like my. Do I need to look at the spark plugs (which were changed 5 months ago).

check the sparkplugs, spark cables, distributor and if they seem ok then your injector might be dirty thus making the car jumpy, also check your air filter, fuel filter and other small factors...the problem is either in the sparking system or in the fuel system..but i doubt its because of the fuel itself...

I own a 87 33 and it has been running on regular most of its life, however once or twice i have topped it with premium and found the idle and acceleration was a lot smoother... she also started easier when warm...?

In Queensland we have 3 grades of unleaded: normal which is about 91 octane; premium which is about 95 octane and BP's ultimate which is about 98 octane. I've been running mainly on the BP ultimate and find that on heavy accelleration, I still ge a bit of pinging. Overall, however, the performance seems quite OK on the Ultimate. The cost is going up - at the moment the 98 stuff is about 97 cents per litre.

Hi

I've been using Shells premium fuel (Optimax) for a couple of years now and I think it makes a noticeable difference, even compared with BP's high octane fuel, albeit slight.

It made the most difference on the old Guilia coupe I had, indeed it would hardly run on normal unleaded - but I guess the ignition / system was set up for the high octane fuels as used to be widely available?

I must check the Aus $ / Sterling exchange rate, but prices round here for Optimax = 84p per litre around town, and 94ppl on the motorways (normal 'got-em-by-the-curlies' mark ups where they can!)

might just be that some debris has been dragged in to the fuel system somewhere... try running optimax / premium unleaded through the system for a few tank fulls with some redex fuel system cleaner.i usually put twice the reccomended dose in......reallly has done the trick on my 1990 alfa 33 16V injection... just to add my point of view, it does run smoother and less jerky on optimax
