Phil
If you are painting an area that was originally painted (black), then normal preparation should be OK. However, if the black area is a finished plastic surface and you have been maintaining it with a product such as Armorall (spelling?) then you will have been rubbing silicone into the plastic which will make it very difficult for paint to stick. The end result could be flaking paint which I am sure you will find unsatisfactory.

Hi Phil, My daughters car is Self coloured on the front bumper ( haven't done the rear as it still awaits the body kit) and it is a definite improvement. Painting of the plastic components should include a plasticiser in the paint to prevent cracking with flexing. I would definitely recommend colouring the side skirts to complete the picture(refer pic of our 1700 on p4 of general: 16x7 rims on a Sud)

Hi eddie
have you put your veloce front bumper on yet? if so what do you think of it and did you put extra holes in the front for cooling.
Hi phil
what eddie has said is right plus make sure you wash all the bumpers off with a good cleaner so the paint will bond.if you are using spray cans then put them in hot water for abit, but not to long as they mite explode. not good.this will give you abit more paint pressure and a better finish.but its best to use a compressor and gun.can you guess what i do for a living?

You'll HAVE to use an etching primer as a base coat - I repeat Have |

We sprayed our bumpers with Glasurit Line-18 truck paint. We matched the colour from a selection card, I forget the number we chose for 130 Rosso. The paint is very thick and flexible and we also used a primer.
It took two attempts, because we initially sanded and repaired the bumper. As a result, the first coat revealed some plastic fibres sticking through. After a sand with wet and dry and second coat, the finish was perfect.
I've since had someone back into my bumper when my car was parked (they drove off without leaving any note). The scratches just polished out and the finish looks as good as ever. |
