I have in the past suffered from oil starvation to the No 1 cylinder in a number of boxer engines, this is sometimes terminal and always expensive. Although my last engine died when a valve stem broke and embedded itself in the top of a piston!
I am now very paranoid, I always try to keep the oil pressure gauge in the corner of my eye when cornering hard (can be tricky!), check the oil level regularly and keep at least one spare engine in stock at all times.
Having read in many places that bearing, crank and rod damage is really quite common I wondered if anyone had benefitted from sump modifications to reduce surging, modified block or crank oil ways or even dry sumping. I have not seen any higher cap oil pumps available for that matter either, although if the oil is not in the area of the pick-up the pump capacity will be unimportant! |
