Hi all what is the best way to repair a hole in bottom of fuel tank. I've got a small hole (probably due to water getting in) taht i have plugged up using a "gum" solution i bought from hardware store or should i replace the tank. Thanks for any suggestions!!!

Obviously, whatever you do, don't weld it!!!

Frankly, if there is one hole, there will be others, so I reckon you are best off trying to find a tank from a later car

Hi,

Throw away your fuel tank It is rusting from the inside and there won't be any benefit to weld it as another hole will appear sooner or later.

This had happened to me - It rusted, it had a hole spilling petrol out of it, I welded it in a mechanic (50€) and after 20 hours it was spilling petrol from another hole
So I bought a new tank for 235€

So don't bother - your money (and time) will be wasted.

I too have had the same problem, I managed to get hold of another tank. Before I managed to find an exact replacement I had started to look at aftermarket 'race' type aluminium tanks that can be mounted in the boot as these seemed better quality and cheaper than the original tank. I am running on carbs and hence do not need high pressure pumps and swirl pots etc integrated into the tank. I am also not so fussed about originality, boot space or routing breather pipes, fuel lines and electronics.

If you are running fuel injection then you need to make sure that the new tank you find is suited to fuel injection, most fuel injection tanks have swirl pots integrated into them and sometimes the fuel pump also. Maybe someone knows the exact differences found on Alfas.

A good second-hand tank will be the cheapest, if not the easiest solution but watch out for duff ones!
