Hi all. Some of you may have been following my trials and tribulations with my 16 valve over the last few weeks and there is loads of stuff about the problems I've been having in the post entitled 'Help intermittant misfire problems'. I'm still having the problems but I seem to have narrowed it down to possibly a faulty AFM or ECU. On the advice of Adrian at Alfa Aid, I have swapped over the ECU with the one from my old P4 and I immediately noticed that the engine sounded different, the car revved higher and went like shit off the proverbial shovel!! I guess that this ECU has an aftermarket chip in it!! Anyway the car seems to run a little better and is much faster but when the ignition is turned and the engine fires up there is a funny short squeaking sound like one of the relays is straining or something? Then the car ticks over fine. I ran my car up to temperature, stopped and restarted it and all seemed fine. Then I left it for a couple of hours to let the engine cool a bit and when I started it up there was the fault again. The engine fired up instantly but the spitback/misfire was there again after driving the car for about a mile it smoothed out again. Does this mean that the AFM is knackered? Also Adrian seems to think swapping ecu's is fine but my P4 was non cat and my 16 valve has a cat. I told him that there was possibly an aftermarket chip in it but he said swapping should be fine. What do you reckon? Oh....and does anyone have a s/h AFM that is in good order for sale?
Cheers Paul. _________________ Currently own a late 33 16 Valve (M reg) in Silver, with P4 alloys and superspint back box.
