Hi Guys,
just looking at getting the cone shaped K&N air filter. The guy at the shop said i need to get a universal adapter with it. He also said that the filter itself doesn't have a cover or casing. Does this all sound right to you guys? Or is there a better way to do it? I'd be happy to hear any sugestions.
Thanks

Hi,
Sounds a bit iffy, the filter should be visible but it should have a top plate, normally chromed and a base with a rubber flange of a given diameter.
I take it that you are looking at an injection application, for carbs two filters are needed, one for each side with metal base and top plates.
K&N have a very extensive website that gives details of their standard filters. The easy way to fit to injection would be to remove the existing filter assembly and look to see where there is a diameter that the filter flange can be placed over and tightened down with a hose clip.
On a VW Golf for example the filter is attached directly to the Mass Air Flow Meter where the original Airbox was attached.
Best wishes
