I want to swap the standard 14 inch alloys on my 33 for something a bit bigger (probably off a 155/145) so that I can run lower profile, and possibly wider tyres.

I also want to put stiffer springs on it at some point, so it might be lower too.

What can I get away with? I'd love to put a set of black speedlines off a 155 on - they're 16 inch with 205 tyres. Will they rub on standard suspension or a 20, 30 or 40mm drop?

If I can't get away with that, what about something with 195/50/15 tyres?

Thanks

Rich T

I think most will agree with me that ultimately, one should opt for 195/50 R15. Some people have experienced tramlining with bigger wheels, and the comfort starts to get notably worse... Tyres probably also become a lot more expensive. Below is a pic of what Speedline wheels from a 155 Widebody look like on a 33 - these are also 15 inch. The only problem is that there is a difference of 0.5 mm in the diameter of the hub centric on the 33 and the 155. If you want a nice loose fit, this basically means that you can either hone out the 155 alloy hub centre bores by 0.5mm in diameter, although the wheels do go on with not too much of a squeeze if you leave as they are. Our mechanic who is a specialist in these old Alfa's said it was quite normal for the wheels to be a tight fit - no problems. We have not honed ours out - they have been fine, just require a bit of knocking to get off Smile

In terms of wheel bolts, from memory the Alfa 33 comes standard with a 27mm thread (please somebody correct me if I am wrong!). The 155 Speedline wheels need a 33mm thread. Although I didn't manage to find any Alfa Romeo bolts (I ended up sourcing some light weight high tensile racing ones), you might have luck sourcing some Alfa 164 bolts though - these were also 33mm from memory.

Cheers Paddy.

Think I've found some off a 145 1.8 (195/50/15) inc bolts, which should be fine.

Just a quick note, the 145 alloys generally have a smaller offset so you may need some spacers to clear the rear trailing arms. The centre bore will also be 0.5mm smaller but they will go on with some persuasion, they will be tight though... Generally in my experience tighter is better.

I have my Sprint on 145 Cloverleaf alloys and they look pretty good, at least thats what people tell me. Still messing about with spacers though as I have 205 tyres on the rear and 10mm spacers are about the minimum. 195s are the way forward.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards
Chris

Hi all.

Daddy got a new pair of shoes couple of weeks ago... OZ supperlegeras (silver) 16" on Eagle F1dsg3 195/45 R16. [(1200eu)]
My baby looks awsome but still spins like crazy when accelarating, not on good tarmac. From standstill will spin even when launched at about 4000 rpm on good tarmac.
Should have got 215`s Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Probably should've stuck the lot in a P4. Getting wheelspin would be impressive then. Smile
