Hi
Forget them...they are too soft. .
The front of the car, on speed bumps, always scrapes on the ground.
I should also point out, that i was using standard springs on my 16v.
They´re life time is very short, probably due to having to cope with the impacts at the speeds that 33`s reach...
Only bought them, because they were a lot cheaper, but in the end i had to change them after 7 months. Now i use Koni sport (Yellows).
Hope this helps

i find the koni kit to be too stiff for most road cars. its ok if you only ever use the motorway or other good roads. but as soon as it gets bumpy its far too stiff.
it feels like the cahssis is trying to tear its self apart at times. that said they did work very well if you could put up with the super stiff ride (even on the softest of the 4 settings). they held the road every time they were asked to and never once broke after 20k of hard driving.
Tein make some very nice shocks and for road use i use bilstein shocks. very firm when they are loaded up but with a nice smooth ride other wise.
avo make quite a lot of very nice kit too. i used avo shocks on my fiat coupe turbo and i loved them. as far as i know they used to make shocks to fit the 33. not sure if they still make them.
if i was looking for some road use shocks then i would defo get some bilstein kit again. they seem to have a large back catalogueof fitments too.
good luck!

Hi,
Just to add my point - I now have all around Sachs shocks and the ride is comfortable with no danger to hit the ground in specific road conditions.
I 've been told that Bilstein are harsh for Alfa's.
My suspension setup is stock by the way , no mods or aftermarket items.

Hi gritsop,
it was other way around, Alfa was too harsh on Bilstein, so they don't last long as they should.
I have front Sachs and rear Yellow Konis.

Pesonally from my experiences with rally cars nothing compares to Bilsteins. I would give my eye teeth for a set for my 33 but alas they are extremely rare for Alfas out here and the cost is considerable. Considering the pounding they used to get on my Escort and Range Rover in extreme conditions, I'm somewhat surprised at the concept of them wearing out on the 33 which is so much lighter.

Tried to buy pair of Bilsteins in Italy, from their dealer, and he told me not to, beacause they are not good on 33, somehting with shock stroke lenght and forces on it?? Even he suggested Konis. _________________ Tino Vatavuk

Are you guys using all these different brands of shocks together with the 33's standard springs?
If you fit stiff front shocks/springs to a series 1 or 2 33, and combine that with hard suspension bushes and low profile tyres, I would expect it hasten the demise of your chassis rails.. |
