|
|
Well, to start with, I have no idea what the part is called like in english, but can the the lower 'disc', that holds the front spring of a 33 be replaced?
I'm talking about the 'new' version of the springs that are being mounted with the 3 bolts on top.

Is it bit 4 is the lower spring mounting plate?
Replacement part from the Alfa dealer or specialist.
If it's holed, thin or rotten replace it.
Worth doing the bearing (19) at the same time for smoother steering.
Costs about £30 for both parts. |

It is part 4, but note, it is for the newer model 33, a post '93 model with the mounting at the top with three bolts.
I know the 4 bolt version is replacable, but is the threee bolt version also replacable? _________________ It's Alfantastic!!

Looks like they've moved the bearing from below to above the spring, so the spring turns with the strut, which I think is more conventional.
If this is the case the design is completely different from the previous one, but maybe the whole strut could be changed for the older type? - both sides would probably have to be changed, and new mounting holes drilled.
It also could be possible to carefully cut away the rusted spring support, after accurately marking its orientation, and weld in a new, old type support in the correct position. _________________ Dick Flower, Nr. Yep, the second picture is the one. In the meantime I found out that indeed it is fixed tot the strut. Welding could be a temporarily option, but i prefer to replace
.... well, in the meantime I replaced now... I replaced the whole car I sold it (told the new owner about the problem) and have a Sprint Veloce now (see signature).
But to continue the spring support story, it seems that the later version, with the three bolts on top is a much imrpoved system, but only when the supports rust away you'll have a problem. No bearing problems anymore though..
Btw. when I mounted new 'discs/spring supports I always treated it with Tectyl as protection. _________________ It's Alfantastic!!
