Hi,
Need a bit of help. The turn indicators stopped working - both sides, but the hazard lights still work, so wouldn't think it should be too difficult to track down, but would like a clue with respect to where to start. I don't think it's the lever as I tried to bridge the plug, which made no difference. It's an '87 QV Twin Carb. THANKS. _________________ John H

John,
Had a problem with mine, indicators would work when the car was cold, but when it got hot (ie. locked up in a carpark in the sun), no indicators but hazards still worked.
After much buggering about found that the problem was dirty contacts in the hazard switch on the dash board!!!!!!!
Give it a go.
Thanks for your help with supply of pistons/rings, will send them an e-mail.

John,
I had a similar problem on my 33. The right hand side indicator would not work sometimes, although the hazards always did. Turned out to be the relay box casing that was fouling on the internals and causing connection problems. With the relay casing removed, the relay worked without any problems. I simply replaced the relay with one from an old scrap car at the local Alfa specialist.
Could be a similar problem on your 33 - I would suggest checking the relay.
Good luck,
Paddy. |

Hi Paddy,
Can you provide a bit more info with respect to relay? On mine, the blinker relay is in a plastic case and the owner's manual does not indicate any other relays asociated with the turn signals.
Thanks. _________________ John H

Alfa electrics!
My Cloverleaf got the same problem quite a while ago when it was still running!
Firstly the indicators and Hazard Lights stopped working. The culprit turned out to be the Indicator flasher unit itself. I took the unit off the car and prised the cover off it. One of the connections on the circuit board had desoldered. Judicious use of a soldering iron with a small bit and some solder reattached the bad connection and solved the problem.
I think where I disturbed the wiring loom to get at the Flasher unit I must have also disturbed the connector on the back of the Hazard warning light switch itself. The result was the same - the hazard lights worked, but not the indicators. I wobbled connector around on the back of the Hazard Light switch and the problem resolved itself without needing to buy a new switch.

It was the flasher relay. Fiddled around with it a bit and got the turn signals working again. Thanks for your help. _________________ John H
