im am looking for reliable info on the boxer engine, does anyone know if the 1.5 block and the 1712 8 valve engine have any differences? ie crank stroke lengths block size etc???? |

Hi. specs as follows:
1.5; Bore 84 Stroke 67.2
1.7; " 87 " 72

Hi,
as far as I am aware the carburated engines are all pretty much the same. The 1200 and 1350 units are best avoided unless you are keeping your car original, good though they are, they do not offer such good value as the 1500 and 1700 units mentioned above.
Earlier engines have solid cam followers, later are hydraulic.
16V conrods use stronger bolts, 16V heads and 8 heads are not interchangeable as far as I know. The fuel systems are definitely not a direct swap as the 16V inlets are a completely different shape and spacing may be an issue also.
