Hi,

My 33 Series III, 1.7 8v seems to have developed a problem.

If I put the clutch down (so the engine is idling) and then turn the steering to an extreme, the engine revs reduce and it cuts out (actually more dies out).

Could the engine idle be too low, or is the power steering pump malfunctioning, or is it something else?

Any ideas appreciated!

Rob

1) - what is the idle?
2) - does this only happen when the car is cold?
3) - any abnormal noises?

1) - what is the idle? - about 850rpm
2) - does this only happen when the car is cold? - when the car is cold or hot
3) - any abnormal noises? - I occationally get the 'honking' noise at the extremes of steering... other than that nothing

Only power steering / engine cutting out issues ive ever encountered are on fiat twin cams, where the power steering at full lock loads up so heavily that its such a drag on the engine it can actually caused the toothed belt that drives it to strip its teeth, or cause the engine to slow so much it stalls.

However, that only happened under circumstances where the stuff was on its way out anyway e.g. old belts / bearings / pump.

If any of the bearings are at all noisy id start with those.

Hi,

Only once did I have this problem.

The scenario was as follows:A very cold night, with heater fan in high speed, lights on, 3 people on the back, almost full fuel tank.

In a maneuver to enter my home's garage I turned the wheel to almost full lock when the engine rpm dropped from 950 revs to around 800 and then off.

It has happened only once and never again so far. Probably due to full engine load.

Regards,
