|
|
Good evening
I have a problem whit my odometer, and I got it down to two parts, the odometer itself, and the connector socket, which is called in Portugal “Sonda do conta quilometros “, kind of an odometer probe, I don’t know the exact translation for it, but it is located near the battery.
I have a 1992 Alfa Romeo 33 1.5ie, and my question is, can I cut the “probe” out and connect the wires directly to see if the problem originates there, or I can make it even worse be doing that?
Thanks for the help.

Hi...
What is exectly your problem?
The odometer, or is the speedometer?
Normally the problems arent from the sensor itself, but from the electronic circuits on the speedometer. I dont really know what you have taken out, but the "sonda do conta kilometros", is located on the gearbox.
You need to be more precise about your problem...
I wouldn´t connect any wires, without knowing exactly what i was doing.

Ok my problem is the speedometer.
It doesn’t make any reading (km or speed)
I checked the speedometer and it doesn’t seem to be anything wrong whit it, and the electrician said the problem was probably from that plug which connects the wires from the gearbox to the Speedo, it’s located near the battery, and I was wandering if I connect the wires directly, without the plug, will a get some sort of reading from the Speedo?
Thanks
Bellamachinna I have sent you an e-mail in Portuguese.

Bypassing the connecting plug cannot do any harm (unless you cause a short circuit). But I would also (from experience) expect the problem to be in the circuit board at the back of the speedo housing. Look for dry joints (that is solder that no longer make a good contact due to heat), etc. _________________ Alfa 33 (1985); Alfa Spider 2.0 TS (1997) |
