Im planning to have the instrument cluster out this weekend to see if I cant get the gauges to give me more realistic readings. Any pointers for beforehand? Ive cleaned up the contacts at the sender ends which has helped but not cured the problems. Main problems are an underreading temp gauge - gets close to 80 in traffic and a fuel gauge that well... sometimes I think its a speedo, sometimes a rev counter, sometimes a clinometer Smile you get the idea.

Hi... Very Happy
As for the temp. gauge you should consider yourself lucky...My 16v always gets to 100º cels. (in trafic). On "Autostrada", it drops to 60º Exclamation
I´ve changed water pump, thermostat, radiator termal switch, termal sender for gauge...and the readings are all the same... Confused
The fuel gauge, its normal. When going up the fuel reserve light ligts itself easily, but when going donw, you get half tank (or tank full).... Shocked
I belive that the problem of the fuel gauge, is not on it. The fuel floater on the tank, shoud be mounted in a way that when car turned, the drop in level was slower... This must sound a bit confusing. Have a look at your expansion reservoir. It is divided by "walls". The fuel tank shoud be designed this way, but for some "italian" reason, it´s not...
This is not a fault. It is CHARACTER... Very Happy Very Happy

0. Clean main grounding point, earth wire.
About temp, are you sure it is inncorect? It could be thermostat also.

Nope, ive not checked the actual temp. I suppose I should get me one of those laser thermometer things. The car does take a little while to warm up so possibly the thermostats been removed. I just thought id do what to me is the easy stuff first.

Ive cleaned up all earths I can find under the bonnet already.

Removed instrument cluster and cleaned it all up - no difference. Not surprising as there turned out to be no earth connections behind the dash - its all run through the fusebox. Next job - remove fusebox and clean that up!
