im wanting to lower my new alfa. if i just took the springs out and got them compressed would the handling etc be all good?? could i just leave it at that or would i need new shocks too?
also would my car be 16v or 8v and what series is it???
p.s sometimes the gearbox crunches when tryng to go into gear, how could i fix this problem?
thanks

You bought it without knowing what it was? nuts.
its going to be a series 2 and therefore 8v.
If youre talking about removing the springs and heating them, thats a no no. If youre talking about removing the springs and cutting them, thats not good. What you want is a proper set of lowering springs. You dont need to change the shocks. _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

I think the answer with the gearbox crunching is that all 33s are like that, don't bother to fix it unless it's really bad.
If the car's stationary and you're trying to get into first or reverse, experiment with timing - press the clutch pedal and wait a while before trying to engage the gear, or try straight away. Also try moving the gear lever part way into second gear before engaging first gear, and similar tricks may work with reverse - try 5th or 4th or 3rd first and see what works.
If you're talking about crunching gears while you're driving, learn to double de-clutch! It's not difficult in a 33 compared to some cars I've tried. |

There are a wide number of vendors. The ones I use on my sprint were from JustSuds. They do ones for the 33 as well. I think you can get other ones cheaper elsewhere.

You must be paying a fair bit on insurance, especially with modifications.... _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

naa its not bad at all. i pay 140 for a year (3rd party). its easy in n.z because u dont have to get many mods certified, unless its major transformation. |

140 a year??? you swine!
In the uk here I pay £450 third party fire and theft for mine, thats lowered 35mm, air filters and exhaust....
We get screwed in this country.
On that note -
policeman got let off scot free for going around at up to 160mph including 85 in a 30 zone. He wasnt on a call, and when asked why he said he was an advanced driver honing his skills and testing his car.
How far would that reason get a member of the public? bah. _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

You guys certainly do get screwed - isn't insurance compulsory over there? If so, I bet that's why you pay so much. Evil price-fixing. =\
But on the other hand, second hand cars seem to be a lot cheaper in the UK. |

Alan, email: keith@jamex.co.nz or website www.jamex.co.nz They import the Jamex range of springs and have lowered ones for the 33. Good luck.

Yup, but it does mean that pedestrians are better covered against bad driving and are more likely to receive financial compensation for any lost quality of life. (Not that i think it can be adequately compensated by money of course) |
