|
|
I've got a 1994 33 1.7 16v Tourismo and have a problem with the RHS indicator. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If the indicator is not working it will start to work again if you can find a handy pothole or speed bump to run over to give the car a bit of a jolt (not big enough to damage anything though!!).
It's obviously a problem with a bad contact somewhere as a physical jolt will temporarily solve the problem. I haven't checked anything out yet but my initial suspicion is that the fault is in the indicator relay. I don't have a manual for the 33 so I was wondering if any of you could tell me some basics about where to find the relay and if any of you have had a similar problem how did you solve it?
Apart from this (and the dodgy central locking, non-opening boot lid, on-off ventilation fan, intermittant electric windows...) it's a great car!!
Thanks
Gareth. |

Just read my queston back and the last sentance sounds a bit sarcastic. I really do love this car despite its flaws. |

The flasher unit is under the dash to the left hand side of the steering columb in case you want to check the connections of your existing one. The relay can be taken apart (carefully push in the exposed clips on the sides) you might find its just a case of a dry solder joint on the PCB which would account for it working intermittantly
Sounds like you've got a few gremlins.......dont we all!! |

Hi,
Had a similar problem with the S2.
The indicator relay was clicking faster and the lights weren't working., Checked the bulb holders at the front and rear, cleaned out the plug socket at the rear of the lights both front and rear, applied a squirt of the Alfa Fix It All... (WD 40 or CRC)
and made sure that the plug was pushed in all the way and seated properly. I have found that they tend to work loose after a while,
The fault seemed to be the plug connection, and all is working fine now.
Hope this helps..
Cheers |

A lot of these sporadic electrical problems can be traced to dodgy ground connections. I would also check the current path to ground (chassis) to make sure there isn't any corrosion at the terminal. Not that Alfas ever have any corrosion of course.... _________________ If it 'aint broke.........it needs some more fixing! |

Whenever my indicators don't flash, a few presses of the hazard lights button fixes them up. Don't know why. |

The flashers circuit goes by the hazard switch. If you remove it, the indicators will not work. Your "gremlin" is probably the conection on the hazard switch, or the switch itself...
hope this heps

I once had a problem with the flasher unit itself - it turned out that the plastic casing was rubbing against one of the internal parts, causing frequent failure of RHS indicator. It worked with the plastic casing removed from the flasher unit / relay, but I managed to salvage a replacement from a scrap car. |

Hi there.
I had a similar problem but with the hazard lights. They had a mind of their own and 5 out of 10 times they couldn't even start flashing at all. The indicators worked nicely!
My solution was to follow the clicking sound of the indicators and locate the flasher relay. It is more or less on the left handside of the steering column about 3 to 4 inches upwards the inner side of the dashbord. It was found on a plastic holder, side to side with another relay box. It seemed that these two relays were rubbing on each other and that affected the flasher's relay. I swapped their position on that plastic holder that was bend towards the inside (its an 94 model) and now the relays work perfectly alright.
Thus check if your flasher is rubbing anywhere and also check that if you wiggle it a bit in its place if it starts working again! Check its connections!
Good luck! _________________ 1994 Alfa 33 1.5 IE Cat. 220.000Kms and still going strong!!! (Από την Αθήνα και τώρα στην Λευκωσία) |
