Hi there,
The late model Alfasuds, Alfa Sprints and I assume early Alfa 33s have a box in the middle of the speedo drive cable. This box has an electrical connection. There are also 2 relays hanging off this "box" which I believe switch between different pickups in the dizzy. Anyone shed some light on the operation of this device?

Regards,
Jeremy

Nope, not me.
But on my spare parts car, trying to start the motor with the battery flat causes the speedo needle to climb (although the car's stationary) and the odometer to wind on additional kms.
And on my good car, I turn the engine off while coasting down the long hill to my flat. As long as the key's in the off position, the speedo reads nothing and no extra kms are added to the odometer reading. Rolling Eyes

???? Blimey!

Doesn't that mean you get NO power steering, and NO servo brakes????

What about the Steering Lock????

Be CAREFUL!!!!! Laughing

Bobber
I have a spare ignition switch/steering lock from a series 1 and I can assure you that the steering lock does not engage until the key is removed from the lock.
Best check your own car because strange things happen and things like these may vary from country to country.

I get no power steering when the engine IS running, because my car isn't series 3.
The vacuum assistance on the brakes lasts for several pushes of the pedal after the motor has stopped, and the hill isn't too steep anyway. Razz
The indicators don't go with the key off though.

jeeze Ben,
Is the price of petrol in NZ that expensive?? Laughing

And as for the extra Km's on the speedo, an easier option would be to fit an original Alfa 33 speedo, everybody has had one, they don't read the km's either.

On your parts car, check where the speedo cable goes through the firewall with the cars main loom, sounds like some stray voltage floating around.

Cheers

Sorry Rallyboy77,

I haven't seen the box that you mention on the speedo Cable. Is yours an electrically driven speedo?
Cheers

No the 'Suds are cable. Maybe all the 33's are electronic?
I may just have to reverse engineer it... hmm.

Rallyboy77,

Most of the 33's I've seen have been electronic.
