Ok – quick question.

I’m pretty sure the strut pan bearings are gone and/or going on my old 33 ti.

Major symptom is that after turning a tight-ish corner, the car tends to drift in that direction when you let go of the wheel on a straight. Also a few creaks and moans from the steering and the steering is quite heavy these days (not tyre pressure)!

My questions is, what happens it you DON’T change the strut pan bearings? The springs won’t snap or anything will they?

Reason I ask is that the car essentially runs fine and I hardly ever drive. Am heading over to the UK to live for a couple of years in a few months and really would prefer not to spend the money on getting the strut bearings fixed.

If, however, the springs are likely to snap or there is some other safety concern with not attending to the problem, I will do it!

Cheers

Ravi

Hi Ravi...

I've been driving mine with broken bearings for two years. No problem as yet.

Only thing is I changed them two years ago - and when letting the car back down off the jack they went CRACK!!!!!! Wasn't happy.

Shouldn't be a problem. You bringing your 33 with you? Where you going to live?

Bob

Thanks for the reply, Bob.

My 33 has only still done 130,000km so I figure another couple of thousand km on the old bearings won’t make too much difference – thanks for the confirmation! I might see how much my mechanic will charge to replace them anyway….

Have no set plans about where I’ll be yet, but in all likelihood it will be London (vague – I know). I’m a lawyer down here in Australia and am in the process of securing a position at one of the large-ish London law firms right now. I have to be best man at a wedding in Sweden in mid July and am looking to start up in August in the UK so I’ll let you know!

Alas, I am going to leave the 33 behind. I’m loaning it to my best mate as his daily driver – he has a GTV6 and a pristine 1982 Sud ti, so knows what he’s doing!

Thanks again

Ravi
