Have just rebuilt the engine in my P4 and put it back in, started up it runs great! how pleased

But heres the thing when i took it out i had a good clutch, now its back in i have no clutch....

Any ideas what may have gone wrong?
Has this happened to anyone else...?

Mark,

first thoughts it could be one of a number of things.

Are you sure you put the thrust bearing back in.

Did you locate the lever arm on the pin inside the bell housing.

Is the pin /rod from the clutch slave cylinder pushing against the lever arm.

First things first, check the clutch slave cylinder is pushing against the lever arm, you should be able to see this if a friend pushes the clutch pedal. Do it only a little so that you don't push the piston out of the slave cylinder - may already be too late.

If the pin is not against the lever, it should be and if it is not check whether the lever is in a position to take the slave rod into the dimple in the lever and that the lever is not loose and off the pin that is in the bell housing.

Failing all that it may be something to do with the clutch itself. They can sometimes stick if not used - but this normally means you cant disengage.

I would check first all of the elements that push the clutch open first. Is there pressure in the pedal? Did you empty the clutch fluid at all.

Work from the master to the slave and the beyond checking that all is working -

i checked everything yesterday and can only guess clutch plate is stuck am going to put it on floor and rol it up drive see if it will "unstick" clutch plate.... fingers crossed....
