Okay here's one for a knowledgeable person out there who might have come across this. My dash brake warning light, petrol low warning light and high engine temperature warning light generally stay on permanently after ignition instead of going out and it's MOT is due next week - great timing! Anyone know quickly where to check as to what's wrong? And yes there is petrol in the tank and the engine is not overheating..... I think my old black 33 did this for a while. Interesting to know what causes it. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

hi paul
i do know the connector on the back of the dials is prone to corrosion and can cause a bad earth or a short and for all those lights to be on does sound like that kind of fault

For future reference, I disconnected the connectors on the back of the good ol' ALFA CONTROL and the dash warning lights work as they should. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

have you left it disconnected?
if so check your brake lights and other lights on the rear
i did the same once and about 2 months later i found out i had been driving with no brake lights - doh _________________ brum brum |

I had brake waring light problem and disconnected alfa control and lost brake lights as steedee said. found problem to be stuck adjusters in rear brake, warning light came on for excessive travel, this may not be case in your car. would expect ewach light to be earther by sender in each case but couldnt be certain without deciphering wiring diagram

Gosh, I've never seen wires going into the rear brakes! Reckon I'd better check all brakes. Thanks Stedee, you're quite right about the brake lights - very important to know and I'm glad you told me. Luckily for now, reconnecting three of the connectors gives me back my brake lights till I sort the problem. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

The brake switch on the pedal has two sets of connections, one pair drives the brake lights and the other pair connect to the alfa control, i found that if i disconnected the control pair then the brake warning light would come on (driven by open circuit) but would go out when i brake.
if i left the alfa control connected to the switch then the brake warning light would come on when i braked, and the brake lights would flash then go out. the part that switches the alfa control seems to be triggered by excessive pedal travel, hence the brake lights flash briefly until the pedal has travelled too far, why the alfa control then stops the rear lights working is a mystery to me.
I do know that you wont find any wires in the rear brakes The adjusters do seem to fail if a little bit drops off, then the pistons travel farther and farther as the shoes wear, causing longer travel.
Most of this is conjecture, apart from the wiring observations, but now my lights work after i'd sorted the rear brakes. Know this doesnt affect your other warning light problems, prob some alfa control issue though, try disconnecting it?
