Hi All,
Some months ago my 33 16v developed the following symptoms:
A general lose of power when accelerating hard.
A flatter/fartier sound to the exhaust note.
Rise in petrol consuption.
Loss of the on/off feel you get at small throttle openings.
The car feels flat, like its over fueling or the timings out. I have swapped the ECU, airflow meter, throttle possition sensor, distributor and idle speed actuator with known working ones from a mates 16v but without success.
Any ideas or help as to possible anwser, please.

Check your exhaust system. Possibly back box?
(If it is, I've got a spare you could have cheap, but god knows how much it would cost to post.) _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Hi Lads,
Thanks for the replies, I should have pointed out that this flat running came on over night, not gradually. I tried taking the back box right off but it made no difference. I have just read about the fuel injection system on this site. Seems there`s more to go wrong than I thought.Could this be my problem?

Hi,
I know this might be a bit late, looking at the date of the original post, but it might help someone else..
I'm thinking the problem could lie with the ECU ignition timing preset connector S30.. It's just possible that one of the connections has corroded and mucked up timing settings..
I've just 'reset' my car, a '91 P4, which was originally programmed to run on 97 RON, no catalyst. Filling with 95 RON fuel was giving me pinking problems, poor power, etc. Having reset the car to run on 95 RON, the difference was instantaneous - no more pinking, much more lively.
98 RON super unleaded is far too expensive for regular use here in the UK (over £1 / litre), so I've had to reset to run on the cheaper 95 RON. _________________ Rusty 33S 16V P4 |

Out of interest How did you do that? Might give it a go if my diagnosis of naff HT leads isn't causing my misfire problem. |

Hi mt,
First locate S30 - on the RHD cars it's in the engine bay, behind the battery, dangling from wiring close to the firewall. Depending on how your car was set up at the factory, it may or may not have a module plugged into it. See the Alfa 33 16V information located at http://www.sanderfamily.com/ for more details.
Once you've found S30, the following should help you identify connections -
86
-
- | | 87
-
85
That doesn't look too good, but the -'s are 'horizontal' sockets, |'s vertical, when viewed straight on from the front. On my car, the connector is coloured orange, but it may of course differ on yours.
On my car, no module was fitted, indicating 97 RON setup, so all I did was make a small wiring harness which shorted the appropriate pins together to reset ECU to 95 RON (pins 86 and both vertical pins labelled 87).
Before you go any further, what year is your car, and does it have a cat? If it does, the car will have been set up for 95 RON already.
Hope this helps - be careful messing with ECU stuff.. don't want to blow it up! Get further info if you're in doubt.[/img] |

Cheers Guest Kevin
I thought you meant you actually reset the ECU, i don't know much about the 33 ECU at all but on the 155 which i'm used to the ECU has a limited learning capability so resetting means wiping the learnt info and putting it back to factory standard.
My P4 is a '93 (i think, K-reg) non-cat and doesn't have a block so according to the above info is set to 97 RON.
Passed the MOT emissions test this morning with 95 RON in it , but will set it up for 95 when i get it back from the garage! |
