Please could someone tell me what I need to do to change one of the gaitors on my 16v's PAS steering rack. It doesn't look altogether pleasant, but at least the engine isn't in the way at the moment. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Hi
From what my local Alfa specialisy has said, don't bother. They are major hassle to change (the rack needs to come apart, so needs to come out) and the chances of it not leaking afterwards are slim. Reconditioned rack is far easier.
All the best

Will a split gaitor fail an MOT? Can you not get gaitors that you can glue together around the rack like the drive shaft ones? Good to see you at NAD Keith. Nice photos. How many series one and two 33s there, though? 3 or 4? _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Paul,
I have a couple of good racks with complete gaiters if you should need them. The only problem would be getting them from me to you.

Cheers Ed, reckon for now I'll bodge it with some of the glue used on the split gaitors, get a reasonable gaitor, split it longtitudinally and glue along the back out of sight. Tut tut, (It's only for a reserve shoddy P4.) Maybe sometime in the future if it's all running well, I'll wish I'd done the work properly, but I've got too much to do at the moment. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar.
