Hello again , I have more relay questions. The story so far. On my old red 16v 33, the front light jet wash worked and the front fog lights to. The front light jet wash stopped working after a while and I found out that the wire connecting to the pump shorted out on the top of the inner wing. The pump still worked when I tested it out of the car but not when in the car and with the lights on. I think it might have damaged the relay. On my current silver 16v 33 the fog lights didn’t work, neither did the front light jet wash, I was about to check under the wing for the same thing that happened on the red one, but noticed a difference in the relay positions between the two cars. Also 1 relay was missing from the silver 1. So first I checked my relays from the silver car, by putting them 1 by 1 into the red car to check to see if they all worked (I forgot about the shorting out of the front light jet wash). They all worked fine, so why was nothing working on my silver car? I then decided to put the relays in my silver car, in the same place as in the red car. I first checked that the wiring was the same on both cars, which it was. Now the front light jet wash works on the silver one and the relays are in the same place as the red 1 were but the fog lights do not work. I managed to get 1 fog light to work at one stage, but I also noticed smoke coming from 1 of the relays. Oops ignition off, no fire so I tried again, no temp warning red light on dash now , coincidence?? Does anyone know what relays are for what? and if I’ve damaged anything? The car runs and there are no fires anywhere. Thanks again.

hi
i t sounds like there is a short to ground on that circuit, the fog lights and washers as a guess probably share the same circuit so look for bare wires somewhere on sharp edges where they could have rubbed and eventually stripped the insulation.

Thanks, I already checked for that and tested the fog lights individually , don't think there is a short in the washer pump as it didn't work at all on my other car when there was. _________________ x2 33 16v

I never seen that high relay in any alfa33 in europe, must be some UK standard.
I guess that smoking relay is for binning.
It is strange but not too much, that relay connectors have different wiring
Can you compare wires leading to them?
The metalic one relay and ussualy one next to it are fuel pump relays. _________________ Tino Vatavuk

weird. I was at alfa day last week, Doh! I should have looked at the many other 33's that were there. Could someone/or everyone with a 33 please post some pic's of their relays. We could start a new thread called "Show us your relays" Could the tall black relay be for the front light washer? As it now works on the silver 1 after putting everything in the same possition as the red 1 _________________ x2 33 16v
