A friend's Maserati Ghibli Cup won't start. It worked like a dream the previous week, and he's never had any starting problems before (from new).

The engine cranks round on the starter. There's a full tank of fuel and fuel is being pumped around the system. The battery is also fine and there are apparantly no loose connections.

We obviously don't want to blow 1000 euros on locating the problem at an over-priced specialist. Anybody have ideas? Laughing

PS. The weather is great here at the moment, which makes this problem even more frustrating. To top matters off his Lancia Montecarlo Spider doesn't brake; ah the appeal of Italian cars... Their beautiful styling is to compensate for when they don't work!

Does it have spark, remove a plug lead enough to see it spark to the engine. Be careful Exclamation

Is there an immobiliser fitted to the car Question

Make sure that is off.

Thanks Scott. Spark plugs and immobiliser seem to be OK.

When turning the ignition two notches we located a constant ticking sound coming from the right-hand frontal area near the airbox/headlamp. Upon further inspection we discovered that a squirrel had been nesting in the airbox with a hoard of acorns et al.

The ticking comes from behind the chassis rail, where the squirrel has munched its way through some electrics.

We just need to find a decent technical layout of the Ghibli to find out exactly what the damn rodent has done. He probably got squashed last week Twisted Evil .

Would you believe ive heard of that before. A jaguar xjs that the owner stored ended up with both airboxs completed filled... looks like the photos have been taken off the web (it was a while ago) but yah. bummer.
