What a dipstick! Can anybody identify those lumps of metal in the guys hands?
This is a hilarious video, but I would only recommend it to people with high speed internet connection

Hah Ha. Those dopey yanks not knowing how to use a manual gearbox! Couldn't really understand what they were talking about though.
And those Ladas were underrated. It was only the fact that the design was old and build quality was poor that people joked about them.
But that design is Italian isn't it? The original FIAT design must have been a pretty good car for it's time. Might have been as good as the old Escort Mexicos with a tuned engine. _________________ 1988 Sprint 1.7 QV (35,000 miles) |

They were based on the Fiat 124 sedan, and the later ones were based on the 131. The car in the video seems pretty capable as far as handling goes, and of course one can bolt a fiat twin cam engine in for the required power. What I like about them the most is their price:fun ratio. Here is an example of how fast they can be: Acceleration is quicker than a 16v 33!!
Final Specification
Engine......................... Fiat twin cam 2,000cc with twin 40 DCOE Webers approx 100 bhp at wheels
Gearbox ......................Fiat 5 speed
Axle .............................Toyota Celica Mk3 with LSD 3.9:1 ratio
Front suspension ........Standard Lada with Spax dampers and lowered uprated springs
Rear suspension .........5 link coilover using Lada radius arms and Spax coilovers. Panhard rod spherically jointed
Brakes ........................Front standard Lada, Rear Toyota Celica drums.
Interior ........................6 point cage, bucket seats, 4 point harnesses, Mountney wheel
Body mods ...................Externally none. Internally, new gearbox cover and trans tunnel. Turrets for coilovers, boxes for upper radius arms.
Boot floor raised for silencer clearance. Rear inner arches raised for extra tyre movement.
Performance ................0-60 approx 7 seconds. Standing start 1/4 mile 15.62secs. Top speed approx 120mph. |

Hi,
Well, if you strip down a 33 16v, you will probably get that kind of acceleration, and it already does some more top speed... A standard 33 16v no-cat does 0-100km/h in +/- 8 secs (even with Air-con). Loose the aircon, the powesteering, all interior triming and passenger seats, and I believe you can get one hell of an acceleration figure...
All the best
