Hello everybody.
Thanks to this forum and tvatavuk answers, I have repaired the 4X4 of my car (was the tooth mesh sensor), but I saw that the gearbox mount is broken, I have a new one, but its very difficult to change.
My question is, if it is necessary to remove the gearbox to change it, or it is possible without remove it.
And as the "ferguson" mount is no more avaliable, ¿Anyone of you have made something which work as this mount?

Thank you, and excuse my bad english, I'm spanish.

Yes it is possible to change it without removing gearbox out of car, but you will need to lower gearbox and at same time put somethin under so it goes up
Put pipe of same diameter as outer metal ring of gearbox mount, and hammer to kick it out.
I don't remember if it was slightly conical but it did go out on one side more easily then other, I don't know which one was it Sad

No we still don't have replacement part for "ferguson " mount.

i had an idea about using 2 square rubber mounts on the existing bracket by drill out where they fit and replacing with rubber blocks with threads on both sides - i have seen these blocks on a car but i am not sure which one - i will do some research into it some day but as a quick fix i have heard that you can repair the perished rubber by squeezing windscreen sealant into the cracks - hope this helps

I assume you don't intend to completely split the motor/gearbox assembly.

To lower the gearbox, while still attached to the motor you need to

* disconnect the exhaust from the headers
* remove the stabiliser bar between the chassis rail and the RHS of engine
* loosen the bolts for the front centre engine mount in the centre of the front cross member
* undo the two bolts at the rear of the gearbox and remove the short bar that goes thorough the rear mount
* support the engine/gearbox assembly, hydraulic trolley jack and a block of wood will work. The block of wood should go all the way to the sides of the gearbox.
* loosen the centre engine mount, you may need to remove the bolt
* lower very slowly the hydraulic trolley jack, keeping in mind the other cables , etc connected to the engine, make sure they don’t stretch

Be careful, as the engine is now supported fully by the trolley jack

If your power steering rack is leaking, now is a good time to do that job as well.

Just small notice P4 gearbox back mount bar is glued to rubber so you cannot remove it separately, well if you brake mount rubber you could Smile

You also might need to unscrew prop shaft shield/gearbox lever mount from el. coupling, and both visco mounts.

Tino,

Thanks, I forgot there was extra weight hanging on the back of a 4x4 gearbox. Wink
