Hi all

I was thinking about getting the cylinder heads gas flowed on my 16v engine - does anyone know firstly if its worhwhile doing and secondly how much it costs roughly. I know its recommended in conjunction with other mods - I have in mind the following: programmable ECU, throttle bodies, and fast road cams.

I know its possible to do this yourself but from what i've read its not all that simple - if you polish the ports too much you don't get the required amount of turbulence in the intake for ultimate efficiency.

Any opinons, or experience would be appreciated (or if anyone has any for sale, that'd be nice)

Thanks

Rich

hi rich
you can polish the exhaust side of the heads but not the inlet side, you remove all nasty casting foulings (bumps etc) and smooth around the elbows where the air goes but they recommend no more than 80 grit for the inlet side. as for cams i couldnt afford them (600 big ones) so i shaved off some of the radius(curve on the back side of the valve) so in theory there should be more space for the air to get in, maybe the same as high lift cams.i also got my heads skimmed but i did that anyway - standard practise if you are changing the head gaskets.also you can have your flywheel lightened but they recommend you have the crank balanced if doing this. these are things i have done except for lightening the flywheel however i am not an expert so take these notes as advice only.

Thanks Afor, yeah I know the 16v has Dellorto throttle bodies, what I meant was that I was hoping to ditch the standard plenum and have individual trumpets. i think AHMotorsport do a kit.

Have you tried contacting dave Young at Mech Motorsport ? Fountain of knowledge and cost effective modifications. He runs the rollers and I believe has been involved with racing them in the past. I know he performed miracles with my 33 rallycar.
