... remove that plastic plate under the accelerator pedal (the pedal stops there when you push the pedal to the metal, all the time that is).

On the 33 16V there is a steel plate under the accellerator pedal (on the Sprint there is an adjustable bolt). If this plate is what you mean, leave it but make sure it is bolted down fully. If you don't have full throttle travel, adjust it at the engine or replace the cable if it is worn.

Hi Bill.
In my 33 16V it is a plastic thing under the throttle. There should be a round part in the middle, which you should "pull" out. Beneath that there is a screw and when that is removed, the plastic thing should be loose. I wrecked mine, trying to remove it....
