I weighed my 33 in for scrap it weighed 830kg.
The scales weren't wrong as I weighed a Hyundia Lantra in at the same time and this came in at 1150Kg (this is the right weight).
Bizzare the car was complete with about 20kg of shite in what was left of the boot. Mind all the lads had a laugh with it round the yard for 1/2 an hour stuck in second till the engine went. Not bad going as it had a solid rotor arm and was being revved over 8k with the valves bouncing off the cams, not a nice sound. |

The low weight is because of all the rusty bits that have dropped off!
Cheers,

I thought that they were meant to be about 900kg though, that's what surprised me. |

I suppose that's why the 33 can often beat cars with a supposedly higher power-to-weight ratio - Alfa got the weight figure wrong???
So let's see, going by what you say, series 2 (light) with 16V (bit heavier than 8V) - 800kg??? 170bhp per tonne???

Considering the effort these guys went to, to get their racing 33 down to 692kg (carbon fibre everywhere, everything lightened), I would doubt any scales or measurements that tell you your standard 33 is 715kg or even 815kg.

But he checked the scales and they were not wrong.
Maybe these people who replaced everything with carbon fibre only managed to knock a few kilos off it? Not hard to believe. _________________ Hugh B

Well if you have an all steel (not rust) standard alfa 33 that weighs 715kg or whatever, then I'm sure the racing guys want to buy it off you. They spend a fortune on carbon fibre panels, strip interior of seats, carpet etc, remove window winders, heater etc, replace glass with plexi-glass windows, alloy parts where possible (e.g. rear crossmember in example above), chemical dipping to remove all underseal etc, etc.
So you can sell them your car and save them all that effort, then I'm sure they will give you a very good price.
By the way what model 33 are we talking about here anyway? Was it drained of all liquids (oil, water etc)? Factory quoted kerb weight would normally include spare wheel, oil, water, maybe even full tank of petrol (?) etc. Base model (single carb 8 valve) series 1 is quoted in manual as having kerb weight of 890kg.
Regards

Perhaps it's been dipped in an acid bath? Like the old Nascar musclecars! |

Alex,
Also removing the tire well and fitting a sheet of lightweight material to cover the hole. Of course they them go and add a roll cage, which goes and puts the weight back in the car, but it is necessary. _________________ Scott Sander
