Hi,
My name's AJ, im South African an today i purchased my first 33.
It's a 1984 1.5L.
I have 2 Giulietta's. The 33 is so different from them it's shocking.
Its a wonderful car, the body is in great condition, really looked after.
Im just a little worried about the mechanicals though.
I noticed a plume of black smoke from the exhaust and the coolant and oil warning lights are constantly on. (even after topping both)
Do i have anything to worry about?
I really need to learn about the car.
Any help would be appreciated.
Kind Regards

The coolant warning light may be coming on because the float in the coolant tank isn't floating. Try unscrewing it out of the tank, pushing the float up manually and seeing if the light then goes out. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Black smoke is usually over rich mixture probably due to the floats becoming saturated with fuel (if they are Dellorto carbs, with Webers it would be a leak in the brass float letting in fuel). It could also be a worn float needle assembly or grit under the seat. The idle would have a heavy slow beat to it's rhythm. Aheavy float will result in too high a fuel level in the floatbowl and this can be quickly checked by removing the air filter and looking down the rear barrels of the carbs with the engine running. If there is any fuel dripping fom the auxilary venturi( the small tube in the middle) then that is the area of problem.
