|
|
Beginning to work out how things are going to go back together... here's a photo of my lovely restored cross-member :
The blue arrowed hole is for the front link arms. The bush goes in here and I have the nut and bolt for this.
Now... my question. I've marked where the horseshoe shaped clamp goes that holds the front torsion bar to the crossmember. That's ok. It can only fit between the threaded hole at the end and the bottom hole arrowed red. I have some short bolts for the threaded holes, and some long ones which go through into the bottom of the car.
I also have a couple more which go through the crossmember in the top red arrowed hole... again, into the bottom of the car.
What the hell is the middle arrowed hole for? It appears I don't have the bolt for that and there also appears to be no recepticle under the car for it to fit into.
Is this hole simply unused?
Thanks folks!

In my 33 the crossmember is hooked on the chassis by 2 long screws at the positions of the upper and lower red arrows. The middle hole is left unused.
However since my motor is a 8V the crossmember is different to yours Bob.

Yes... from Frost.
POR Strip
Marine Clean
Metal Ready
POR15
Stirling Silver (PHEW)
Although the finish is not actually as good as it looks in the photo... I'm informed it's a solid rust-beating coating.

Only thing is i don't have a helmet. I'll have to see about borrowing one of a mate as i don't want to buy one for one days use.
I watched the youtube vid John......... didn't look as crowded on the track as i had imagined.
By the way, If i do the SCUD i'm going to make a frame to hold my camcorder to catch all the action as it happens |

Hi
If you want a helmet to do you any good then buy a new one and get one that fits.
Helmets are single use items. Smack them once and they will do no good at all for an impact in the same place. And may will not show any external damage (I have beaten hell out of an old Polycarbonate helmet with a large hammer and not made a mark). And the lining compresses to suit the wearer over time, and isn't likely to do that for a 2nd owner.
Buying 2nd hand not only means it has compressed to suit someone, and you have no idea if it has already been trashed. And buying online means you have no idea if it fits properly (more important than how good a helmet it is).
All the best
