Guys,
This is the technical term for the thin round arm which ends in a flat bracket under one side of the oil sump. 
The one where it has a large hole in it to allow the coolant to be drained. It's held on my two bolts either side (I think) but I don't seem to have these. On the ePer CD it claims these are studs with washers and nuts on... but I think they've got this wrong.
Anyone know different?

Hi Bob,
They are bolts with washers. Not sure of the size though, sorry. |

Its a 17mm socket to undo if thats any help. M10 or M12?

From memory that engine stabiliser thingy is broken on my grey car - I think the metal which holds the bush in place has cracked near the bush. Should I care?
This car currently has an awful rubbery rubbing/grinding noise which seems to come from the left front wheel during right hand turns over about 10kph. I don't think lack of engine stabilising could cause that, possibly a worn CV or wheel bearing or the new CV boot is the wrong size or something?
Planning to have another look this weekend.

I would definately replace it. When it broke on a rally the next thing that went was the main engine mounting  . Only thing keeping engine in car was the sumpguard

Happened to me several years back, after the stabilizer arm broke the main engine support went. Also before the main support went, the engine used to move on left hand bend causing the exhaust manifold to hit the rear wishbone chassis mount. Sounded like a grinding noise.

Mechanic fixed this noise by nothing more complex than tightening the big hub nut. 
After cleaning all the muck off the engine stabiliser thingy I see the design is different from what I'd assumed - looks like it's not broken after all. 
My grey ti still has something wrong in the left front suspension though.
Long story:
When I got the car, the strut boots had rotted away and the l.f. strut squeaked and clunked. It could be silenced for a week or so by oiling, but I assumed the strut was knackered from dirt getting in.
I swapped the struts over from my other car.
The strut I took out of the grey car seemed fine, and within a few weeks the previously fine strut I installed in the grey car was soon squeaking and clunking in just the same manner. My mechanic did the old suspension bounce test, and by comparing sides of the car he concluded the strut was seizing.
I'm more inclined to believe something's wrong with the suspension and that is stressing the struts. Probably not the loose hub nut. Possibly the collapsing strut pan bearings, or something dodgy like a bent spring pan, a spring from another vehicle etc. I vaguely recall everything not quite lining up last time I reassembled a strut on one of the cars.
To get to the bottom of the problem I forsee more cursing at balljoints and stripped hub threads and more spending money.
