Now that I have the Imola more or less sorted and on the road I want to do something about its lack of power compared with the 1.7 ie, and also the persistent clatter from a noisy valve lifter, which has not responded to two flushes and a fill with new Mobil 1.

I want to rebuild and install the engine from the (1991) 1.7, which has pre catalyzer system. I can't fit this as it would not meet the pollution requirements for the 1993 Imola.

It has already contributed many parts, and is looking rather sad, but as a RHD UK reg car in France, with a broken windscreen, it was no longer a viable car.

Does anyone know if I can simply fit the larger engine and connect it up to the Imola's system? Or would I have to change something in the ECU?

Being more of a carburettor person I am not too familiar with the insides of these new fangled gismos.

Hi

Likely the fueling would be miles out. Depends on whether the Marelli system can cope with adjusting the fueling far enough based on the lambda probe.

All the best

Keith

Thanks, I think I may give it a try and hope for the best.

I thought the 1.3/1.4 used a Weber system. Is that the same as Marelli?

My ECU is about 6" square with a flat unpainted aluminium cover and the connector on the bottom. It is mounted on the inside of the wheel arch on the LHS of the engine bay

Hi,

"Will not work at all" - surely you don't mean the engine won't run?

Could you give more details, please?

Regards, Richard
