Hi,

I also found time (somehow) to fit the supersprint backbox i bought 2nd hand at Auto Italia day recently at Stanford Hall for a bargain £30.

The guys present may remember that it had the remnents of an old middle pipe firmly lodged in the input pipe. Gave the thing to my father to play with in his mystical workshop. After hours of working on it with saw blades etc, he got the mofo out.

It was no suprise that the cat end join to the backbox was well and truly rotten. This (#2) cat has been on since 2004. So i dug out a stainless steel 'end bend' i had made up in 2002 for the cars original cat in order to repeat the process of cutting and shutting.

Didn't exactly slip on, but wasn't too bad and it all fitted the standard rear mounts!!! Paul Hide, I'm pleased to say you was wrong!

The extra clamp on the stainless 'insert pipe' has a homemade bracket fitted to hook on the corner rubber doughnut.

I always use cable tie loops to pull the doughnuts on and off the hooks- works a treat and saves putting a big screwdriver thru the floor Wink

Cut down cat.

Stainless bend

Cut and shut.

Other pics.

Nice deep quietish sound too Very Happy

John,

You going to fill in the standard exhaust cut-out and make a new one??? Seems a little weird like it is!

No offence! Laughing

Yeah iwas thinking avout that. Will probably try and get a bit of scrap bumper off someone and make an insert for the cut hole, that could be removed for standard box if fitted again some day- a bit like the tow hook covers you see on 'modern (post 95!) cars.

The tailpipe actually clears the bottom of the bumper by about 2mm so may leave that alone, uless it starts melting.

One option would be to cut swap a new cut out for the old, but i'd probably make a mess, and i'm not really into body mods- the backbox itself is a bit too 'westwood' already!
