I took the dash out and the steering column cowling and found that who ever wired in the alarm did a cr ap job. The earth off the ignition module was cut and wired into the alarm loom for the immobiliser. This had got caught in the steering rack joint and got ripped out of the ignition module block connector. This caused a short and had burnt one of the tracks on the pcb in the alarm. There were loads of wires from the alarm loom with potential to do the same, so I re-wired them and moved them away from the steering rack and soldered some copper over the fried pcb track.
Everything is now back together and I can start the car from the inside, YEAH!!! _________________ x2 33 16v
