Hi all
I want to make my recaro drivers seat perfect and my idea is to get a passenger seat and convert it to go on the drivers side. On looking at the seat it appears that there are 2 problems
1) the seat belt mounting is on the wrong side - could I just swap the subframes over?
2) The winder will be on the wrong side - I did have a quick look to see if this could be swapped oveer to the other side but after a very quick investigation, it appears it can't (I'm sure it doesn't really matter but I'd like it to be right if possible)
My other idea was tp just swap over the centre parts - i think these come out separately, but does anyone know how?
Thanks
Rich |

Well, I've started to have a go at making a perfect drivers seat using a nice passenger seat as a base (I bought a spare interior with a rough drivers seat which I've started work on). Here's the progress so far...
Backrest on drivers seat removed, you can see the wear on the bolster material...
Cover and centre panel removed showing foam underneath...
cover...
foam...
bare seat frame...
All I need to do now is remove the parts from the passenger seat and transfer them to the drivers seat... |

sweet, i have always wondered how easy / hard it would be to dismantle them. Did you have to cut any stitching so far?
Hows it going btw? _________________ x2 33 16v

Well, its not that easy Al, its rather fiddly and lots of parts to dismantle but you don't have to cut any stitching, once you've got to the fixings, it just unclips.
Waiting for a new part, then I can put it all back together, I'll post a piccy when its finished. if you need any help, let me know |

Been trying to get a brand new cover for drivers seat just to make it perfect but as I suspected the part is no longer available. Mangoletsi suggested I contact Alfa GB in Slough who might be able to do a worldwide search for me but unfortunately they don't have the facility to do it.
They gave me a web address of a company that specialise in parts for older cars www.nuovastecca.com but didn't have any joy there. It doesn't really matter too much as I can use the cover from the passenger seat as its excelllent, just thought it'd be nice to have a brand new one.
The only way to do this I think is to find yourself a spare interior (preferably with a ropey drivers seat which will make it cheap) and swap everything over as I am doing. I've nearly finished, I'll post a piccy when its done... |

Well, I've finally finished the drivers seat, I'm rather chuffed with it: here are some pics:
If anyone is thinking of doing the same and needs any help, give me a shout... |
