Failed the MoT today:

Tyres, frankly I'll be glad to see the back of my ancience P4000s

Hazards not working. They've been intermittent since I bought the car and I thought I'd fixed them, back to the drawing board.

Nearside steering gaiter. I've no desire to spend my Saturday wrestling with this so am going to get the garage (they are trustworthy) to do this.

I had concerns about the emissions / catalyst so was pleased that this presented no problems. The figures were 0.626 and 107ppm, anyone any idea what the pass marks are?

Anyone got a know good hazard warning switch for sale?

Hi,

I only recently got the rear old p4000 tyres off my 33. The tyre fitter said they were very hard, thus ancient. Now wearing p6000s all round, got cheap on ebay.

The steering gaiter means rack off which is a real pig I'm afraid. The racks aren't meant to be servicable, and AR used to chabge the whole lot. There are specialists who can rebuild them. I had the boots changed by an Alfa specialist on the original power rack once. They charged me over £60 in labour on a loose rack, saying it might not work or might leak. It didn't work, had a horrible clonk, and wouldn't bleed. Had to get a new rack.

The hazard unit probably has a dry joint. Do a search on here. I had a similar problem a year or 2 ago and Lee gave me instructions on which bit to re-solder- worked a treat.

HC limit is 200ppm. I think CO is meant to be 0.2% but that could be wrong.

John

The hazard flasher unit is stuck up high under the dash to the left of the steering column casing. It may be clipped in place or may be hanging free. If you swith the hazards on you can probably feel for it and on moving the unit around it'll start clicking. From memory it has 7 pins i think???

Yup, dry joint where the board fixes onto the lucar connectors. Many thanks for this chaps. Hazards now working and I've tidied up the under dash wiring to boot!

Now lets hope that the garage do only take 3 hours to do the steering boot.
