I know that there is a difference in length between the leading arm that was fitted to the 33 and Sud. The one that goes from the crossmember to the driveshaft hub.
Does anyone know if the sud one is longer or shorter than the 33 one?
What bit of the geometry did they change that required the different length?
Are the chassis legs different in length?
Did they change mounting position on crossmember?
Any info appreciated

I think (may be wrong) the sud one is longer.
Would love to find out the exact lengths of sud/ 33 items as I have one i bought a while back which i think is possibly a sud one

I seem to remember hearing my mechanic say three different variations of those suspension bits are available.
I have a series 2 33 brochure which mentions "redesigned Macpherson strut independent suspension system and new front camber angles..." - I believe the earlier cars had greater camber on the front wheels? Perhaps it wore the inside edge of the tires too fast if you didn't compensate by cornering like a madman. _________________ "Now, all that is left to do ... is wait that something else brokens, to fix up again!" |

from wot i understand, the revisions on the S2 33 brought the front wheels slightly further forward (mainly to reduce dive under braking).
So i guess the front trailing arms on suds/S1 33s are effectively longer than S2/ S3?
I also reckon it's possible that the arms on S1 33s are sud ones, but there may well be 3 distinct types as Ben suggests ( sud, S1, S2/3 )
Have been suffering from excessive -ve camber on my S1 since i fitted justsud's lowered springs. The eibach springs i previously had on my S2 were a fair bit shorter, but didn't produce nearly as much -ve camber when fitted. so.. my guess, again, is that the semi trailing arm is also longer on S1 33 than on S2/3?
The mounting position on the crossmember was changed for S2, and anti roll bars fitted javascript:emoticon(' ')
I recently spoke to a chap called Barry who converted his sudsprint to later 33 running gear. he said the front mounting was higher on the sudsprint part?
I have also considered that the actual difference in the overall lengths of the various parts might not be as different as the positions(s) of the bushes, balljoints? |
