Hi guys,
As you know I fitted some new pads to some slightly worn disks
http://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=5807
They were bed in and seemed ok, except for one weird time where they got brake fade but no massive amount of heat coming from them and were ok after that. I then changed the disks for some much better second hand ones with no lip. I have let them bed in but they never got anywhere near how they were with old disks. I noticed a dark ring around one of the disks and the pedal goes a little further before braking works and the braking is not good.
I am thinking that it is a glassed pad, I am going to sand the disks a little to get rid of the dark ring and take the pads out.
I believe that I should use a coarse grit sand paper on a flat surface and scrub the pad. How much do I need to do this as I believe a glassed pad goes quite deep? I will then have to bed them in again.
Should I also bleed the fluid? _________________ x2 33 16v

Bleeding the fluid will help put a more solid pedal under your foot but it never last long as far as Ive had. I guess sanding the disc's until they look dulled and fine metal dust is seen. Just out of curiosity Al, are the newish disc's for a 33 and not one of those vauxhall conversion I think you were talking about a while ago?. _________________ PHAT 33 |

Hey Iain,
Na, the disks are 33 ones from Paul.H, i have not got round to getting bigger disks yet. I was going to have a go today but it was raining. I had a test with the brakes today, they are seriously crap. I stomp on the pedal, loads of travel, brakes are not sharp, takes long time to slow, did manage to get the car to turn left whilst braking in a straight line, could be the rears working better than the front or one side pulling more that the other, further investigation needed me thinks. _________________ x2 33 16v
