Better not mention what I paid for my Trofeo, then.

It does only have 80,000 clicks on it though.

The spare has never been out of the boot. Its date code is 1993.

£1600 isn't silly money, not for what you get?
This is what they should be at! They'll be more, in years to come?

Any late P4 with CT for 1500 notes sounds ok.

He'll keep that plate won't he, as the Departement will register it.

They're the original rims you know... look like split rims, but just have dummy plastic screws in em... used to be able to pick those up for beer money!

The P4 certainly looks good tho, but I've always loved the 33 for being a splendid £200 to £300 car Embarassed

I paid £1500 for mine about 18+ months ago. Very similar to the above except mines a 16V 2WD and has the Recaro interior. That said mine was one owner, garaged and about 36k miles (now 48k ish).

(£1500 was the asking price and because of the vendor's circumstances it would have been wrong to haggle.)

I thought / think so (on both counts).

In 18 months the only rust I've found was behind the ns mirror and I suspect that the mirror has been whacked at some time, replaced and nobody repaired the paint where the force of the mirror being wrenched damaged it.

The French one is a year older and is therefore (I suspect) before the mandatory cat date which has to be a good thing.

Apart from those vile mats it looks good, and it's nice to see a decent asking price.

I paid over 2k for my car in 2001, and then it cost me aprox another £750 in parts in it's first year!!

I personally prefer the 'split rims', but that car should really be rolling on p4 wheels.

My car has the Ronal faux split rims. The old boy I bought it from very sweetly gave me a pot of shinier fake bolts that he used to put in for shows!

French hypermarkets are stacked high with truly dreadful mats, steering wheel covers and the like that even a Max Power reader would be ashamed of.

I never realised the bolts could actually be removed, i thought they were stuck on- would certainly aid refurbishment if they can be unscrewed.

They're pushed in John, tight fit, I don't think they are stuck but they are near impossible to remove without snapping.........I tried when I had my set the car came with.

I paid £1050 for mine in 2003.......would like to think I wouldn't lose too much money if I sold it (which I don't plan on doing anytime in the near future).

Permanent 4s originally came with these wheels. I think the P4 alloys came in with the S (sport) version.

You can get a French CT quite easily if the condition is OK. Even if there is a return visit required it can still be driven if the fault is not serious, usually for a month or two. I was given 2 months to fix severely out-of-balance rear brakes. Turned out one was full of bearing grease!

Book an MOT in England for the day of arrival there, I believe you are allowed to drive it there from the ferry.

Yeah even if it fails the french CT you're still allowed to drive it for two months. It looks like the MOT's run out and the owner doesn't want to bother with it.

The insurance company may want to see the CT report though.

The car is between Bordeaux and Agen from the post code.

My local CT examiners seem more interested in the paperwork than the testing. Probably because they have a quiet life so long as the paperwork is OK.

I'm trying to import our Sprint, registered in Spain. Yesterday the local CT guy told me the papers I got from Traffic department there were the wrong ones. I spent the rest of the day at the Prefecture in Carcassonne, where I had to get the head of the vehicle department to phone him to tell him he was wrong (the procedure in Spain changed last year).

Today he looked at the papers properly and said "Oh yes, they are OK" - I guess he didn't know I was in the office when the head guy tore a strip off him.

I also found I have to put rear seat belts in it. They have been obligatory here since 1978. Everyone seems to have known that except me.

At least the Sprint has belt anchorage points, but they are for horizontally mounted inertia reels. Those from the spare cars are vertically mounted, and won't work horizontally. The centre lap belt works, of course.

Luckily there are plenty of static 3-point belts on eBay.

The two months grace is just for local use to get it fixed though isn't it? You can't take the pish and drive across Departments to get to the port? You'd be left to the mercy of the Gendarmerie and local courts as to how they deem the road use violation?

I have a Honda sitting in Bretagne to get home but MOT ran out in 2001. My Mum ran it around, never registered, never CT'd, ran for a few years more (routinely serviced) and then parked it up when the local garage said it needed underbody welding. I want to fetch it, but daren't.

Anyway, back to that Sportwagon Series 2.
Looks a good condition one, but he wants way too much for it, especially when he's advertising it as a possible parts car. How about chopping it into a Pick Up ! Cool Smile

A lot of people ask too much for the cars they sell. Sooner or later they realise it's too much.

I may be wrong but I don't think there's any restriction concerning the two months' grace. But I suppose if you have a prang and your brakes don't work at all the insurance company may have something to say about it..

You can drive a vehicle anywhere you wish pending a return visit, but if the car has an obvious fault affecting safety you run the risk of being fined if stopped by the police.

Not all faults resulting in a return visit are major safety items, and many, e.g. tyres, lighting, brake adjustments are easily corrected.
Emission faults, unless gross, are also unlikely to be picked up by the police.
