Hey guys, i just noticed the other day that my coolent level was close to the top of the header tank when hot, there is pressure in the system.
Does this mean the cap is leaking and allowing the water to expand or something else?
The level is correct when cold

Thanks
Alan

That sounds like normal behaviour.

They call them expansion tanks for that reason.

Hi Eagle,
It hasn't done it before, which is what concerns me, I do mean right to the top as well.

Is it getting hotter than normal? Is the radiator getting hot? Just wondering whether the thermostat is jammed almost shut.

Make sure the return pipe to the heater and the red overflow pipe is clear. Also check the cap on the tank. It should open under highish pressure and let off steam through the red pipe in theory.

New thermostat, not too long ago.
running temp is normal, rad is hot, in car heat hot, both pipes are warm/hot and under pressure.
The first thing i did was take off the pipe and blow it lol. when pipes are squeezed water flows.

Upon further investigation I found that 2 jubilee clips needed to be tightened and I think that the cap was not on at tight as it should have been.
