Also getting a problem where posts i have read are still being shown as unread, even with a resfresh. Might be something to do with "If your browser does not support meta redirection please click HERE to be redirected" _________________ x2 33 16v

So what browser are you using? IE8? Firefox? Opera? _________________ Alfa33 QO 1984

Hi
Will have a look when I get a chance. But these things can be gits to spot.
I am doing some changes at the moment, but nothing had gone live yet.
If you can spot a pattern that would help greatly.
All the best

Hi
I have had it too, and can see it happening in the session table. But no idea why.
Not sure how much you know on php, sessions and cookies. This board is using phpBB2 (which is pretty out of date). It generates a session id and stores that in the session table, and also in a cookie on your machine. It also tries to store it in a hidden variable on most pages.
When a page is processed it looks for the session id in the cookie, and if it doesn't find it there it looks for it in the hidden field.
What seems to be happening is that the one it decides to use either isn't found on the table the sessions are stored in, or there is a mismatch on something else (eg, it checks the ip address). Some of the checks it only bothers to do after a minute from the last check.
However not sure what is happening. With you, your IP address in the sessions table hadn't changed, and there was only 14 seconds between the last use of one session and the next use with your new session id.
What I have noticed is that if if bounces you off but you still know what the session id is then you can go into the cookies on your machine and update it back to the old session id, and by magic you land up logged on again as you were before.
All the best

If I'm having no problems with IE8, but you are, Al, doesn't that point to something extra on your machine causing a problem, like virus protection or something - As you can see I know nothing about computers. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Hi
While it might be a browser issue I am not sure that it is.
I have had the same issue and I am using Opera.
Did it to me when I opened about 10 threads at once (click the mouse wheel to open them in the background) and the first half opened OK while the 2nd half of them had me logged off (and both sessions were still logged in according to the server).
My guess is that it is a problem with cookies failing to get to the web server.
All the best

Hi
Mmmm, slight progress. Just after that post it booted me off and invoked some debugging I had lobbed in.
Problem appears to be that it is not getting the right IP address. PhpBB checks the first 24 bits of the IP address and if that has changed compared to the IP address stored on the sessions table then starts up a new session.
For some reason when it chops the first part of the IP address off it is leaving "000000" (which is almost certainly not a match!).
Not sure why. I have put in more debugging info to double check.
All the best

I've had a few problems too recently, and just lost a reply to another post about 33 on youtube.
If it's a hosting issue, I'd be happy to host FOC.
I don't know whether there are enough of us to make it viable to club together for vbulletin forum licence?
Cheers,

Hi
Hosting might be the problem, but not sure. And I have other hosting I can use if needs be. Problem is that it is very hit and miss and I can't see how to trigger the problem.
I would rather avoid any paid for vbulletin solution. Don't really think it is any better than phpBB, and the hassle of converting would be worse than converting to phpBB3 and on top of that there would be a hefty yearly fee.
As to losing posts, it is one reason I use Opera. Click the back button and the input fields are still populated.
All the best

Hi
Seems to work. That bit is totally javascript so would suggest a problem with your browser for that.
All the best

javascript is to blame lol
now when replying to a post the "topic review" below, where you can see what your replying to is blank. _________________ x2 33 16v

Hi
It just bounced me out again when I went to reply. Which gave me some more info.
$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'], $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR'], $HTTP_ENV_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR'] and getenv('REMOTE_ADDR') all returned blank for the IP address.
That suggests a server issue.
The topic review is in a seperate table, and think that it can sometimes take a while for that to be populated if there is plenty of info.
All the best

Hi
I have done a bodge that (for now) might stop this being quite so much of a problem. It isn't a real fix.
What I have done is changed it so that if the IP address is a load of zeros (ie, should be invalid) then it bounces you to the front page of the site. I hope that this means it will not log you off, but can't be sure.
Sorry about the inconvenience.
If this bodge causes and issues (beyond the obvious one of being on a page you didn't want to be on) then let me know.
I have had a good look around and cannot find anything from anyone who has had the same problem. I have put a call in to our web space provider and hope that they can find a solution.
All theb est
