I thought i would start a new thread, as the title says, could people please suggest why i am not getting enough vacuum to activate the FPR to bring down the fuel pressure on idle.
The FPR works and fuel pressure drops 0.5 bar if i suck on the FPR.

The throttle stops have been adjusted to be open by 10 thou, 1/4 turn and TPS has been adjusted accordingly.
I tried the airbleed screws fully closed, 1 turn and 2 turns, made no difference.

I tested for air leeks by covering the AFM with my hand and after the engine stalled i could hear no air leaks, i assume this would only test for leaks to the top of the TB's. I also checked all pipes from TB's to the 5 legged plastic spider and to the carbon canister.

The only other place vacuum is used is for the brake master cylinder, there is a 1 way valve there.

Where else should i look?

Any other suggestions?
How much vacuum is need to move theFPR diaphragm?

Could someone with a car that passes emissions please check for me by removing the vacuum pipe and see how much vacuum is produced on idle.
As in is there enough vacuum for the pipe to hold your finger tip as it could be there is enough on mine but the diaphragm is stiff.

Thanks in advance.

Please could someone with a 16v test the vacuum on the pipe to the FPR, if there is not enough to hold on your finger then i can look at changing my FPR.
Thanks Alan

I might be running the car tomorrow (tues) or weds. I'll try and have a look.

What i'd be worried about, and perhaps others feel the same, is that if I/they yank off the vaccum pipe ours might leak afterwards too. Anyway i'll try my best al'

Thank you very much john, much appreciated, there should be no problem as it’s a solid plastic pipe with rubber u bend at the end, a bit fiddly to get at, might need a 10mm spanner at worst, but I’ve managed without several times.

Sorry al' no joy.

I could get to it ok, but it's really moulded itself on nicely over the last (almost) 17 years. I tired a gentle pull and twist movement but no joy, and i'm not prepared to risk tearing it.

I know nothing about the fpr, but if you can move it by sucking on it i'd guess it works??? If you are getting enough suck o the tube to keep it stuck to your finger, that sounds like quite a lot of vacum- if it won't stay on your finger it's probably leaking.

Maybe someone else can shift theirs to determine the 'suck'.

Hope you sort it.

John

Got a reliable vacuum gauge on the FPR and is holding ok, measured the vacuum comming from the pipe to the FPR and the reading is in zero on the gauge.
Alex, did you get a chance to whip off the plastic spider and pipework of any of them?

Is there a 1 way valve in that plastic housing.
I have blown and sucked on the pipe and i can hear air going to all TB's, all pipework is intact, where else can it be leaking from?
