F**king Typical, 2 days before SAD the 33 develops a fuel leak on the tank.

I filled the beast right up for the 1st time in years on Friday afternoon ready for SAD, and by the time I got home it stank of fuel.

Got underneath today, and although it's not physically dripping on the floor it's wet around the front ns seam.

I guess as it's the first time the level has probably reached the seam in about 5 years it's penetrating thru there.

I thought it could be perhaps from the top/ sender breather hose area, but would think then fuel would run down the tank front and back???

Any suggestions??

The tank has been well protected externally with waxoyl/ dinotrol etc repeatedly over the years and looks well solid.

Gonna have to use the car for local trips over the next few weeks to use up about 40 litres of fuel before attempting to drop the tank to investigate.

John

I'd say it's most likely the filler neck, cap or breather hose.

Hoping it's the breather hose/ connection on top of the tank, but think this might have made fuel run down the back of the tank too?

With the tank very full, there was no leaking with car parked, but slight wetting on the front after a couple of short trips.

With tank down to about 3/4 full no sign of leakage and even getting some whoosh on opening the filler cap.

Tank seems to be in good nick, so I now fully suspect connections at top or possibly sender unit/ gasket.

Gonna have to use the fuel up then drop tank to inspect, or never fill right up again!

Yeah, I'd go for the 'never fill it again' option Laughing

Easy job to do though and worth inspecting the top of the tank for signs of rust.

If the tank is leaking, then yep I do. I'm not sure I can face trying the wire brish/por15 /hammerite process at the mo'.

How are the alloy tanks coming along?
