|
|
Hey guys, I need some help on my proposed mods to make my car more track day orientated. It will be a trackday / fast road car and needs to be road legal.
If I drive to the track I will have the cat on it, if it is trailored I will have a decat silencer, Db is 93 atm
Have I missed anything?
Gearbox
I HAVE SOURCED A SER 2 SUD 1.5 GEARBOX
Engine
Oil cooler
Oil temp gauge
Baffled sump
Live rolling road mapping
Wheels & tyres
7J ET35 with 4mm spacers = ET31 toyo 888 195 50 15, will this put too much stress on the bearings? I may be able to remove the spacers due to my adjustable panhard rod.
Suspension
The softest Class F springs, so I can still use it on the road.
The car already is fully polly bushed with powerflex, Koni sports shocks and Eiback springs
Steering
Removing the powersteering rack and replacing it with a ser2 non powersteering rack, I will get the steering arm bushes pushed out and get some powerflex bushes made so I can use the ser 3 adjustable arms on the ser 2 rack.
Brakes
Larger disks with the same callipers or larger callipers.
Braided hoses.
Ferodo DS2500 / 3000
Interior
Remove the sound deadening
Bucket seats
Rollcage.
I have just eamiled my insurane company to see how much / what I can do, fingers crossed _________________ x2 33 16v

Interior is out, only 1 seat, ready for restoration / welding, dropping the car off tomorrow where I will remove the headlining, sound deadening and carpet.
I can't believe how high the rear sits now lol.
It will be interesting to see how it goes without all that weight in, the sub alone was 18Kg _________________ x2 33 16v

Wow, what a job that was, not something I want to do again in a hurry. I did all but the stuff on the bulkhead and roof, with the help of my restorer, how much is on the roof?
As expected there is more work needed.
Anyone got any original sills? _________________ x2 33 16v

Was your 33 on any kind of accident?
Why there's so much rust on it?
All series 3 were galvanized...
Is that common in the UK? _________________ Carpe diem!!

Only minor ones front and rear, not by me. Front one was caused by a council truck reversing into the grill and there is a repair job on the driver’s side rear quarter.
That is hardly any rust for a 33, there was a dent under the drivers seat, my bodywork guy thinks a mechanic has just jacked it up there, not on the jacking points.
If the spot welds for the floor come apart and cracks appear on the underseal, water gets in and prizes the floor away from the body.
Yes, most 33’s rust big time _________________ x2 33 16v

Here in Portugal they dont rust that much, maybe because of the diferent weather conditions...
Still they were galvanized, they shouldnt rust that much... _________________ Carpe diem!!

I was at the workshop on Wednesday, removing both wings, one is being replaced as it is rusty at the bottom and the other is being removed for access to the top turret for welding.
I hate captive nuts, the OS wing took most of the morning to get off, did it without removing the bumper, the NS 1/2 the time.
The car had to be turned around and driven onto blocks of wood to make it easier to jack up, started first time . When I went to drive up onto the blocks, I went backards straight into a stack of wheels, DOH!!! I thought the blocks were behind the wheels:o Needless to say my restorer guy was a bit confused, I was all hot and bothered and rather embarrassed. I managed to put a small dent in my replacement wing as well DOH!! At the end of the day I found the funny side.
I was hoping to get the rest of the sound deadening off but didn't feel comfortable doing it with the car on 2 wheels
I got some pics today
angle grinder & wires don't mix
angle grinder & wires don't mix
wing prepped, took longer, thanks to me making more work for him!

Tell me about it Ian
I thought the same thing, I will ask him about it, it looks as if the inside is where all the welding has been done. _________________ x2 33 16v

What has been done is legal for MOT, he's been doing it for years. You can't get into the sill section to clean the welds, all you can do is wax oil it, so if you seem weld it it will rust from the inside.
More pics today
He will be busy this week, might get time to paint the wing and then I have to remember how things go back together. _________________ x2 33 16v

I am worried that I wont remember where things go, so I started putting nuts and bolts back where they came from, loose though. _________________ x2 33 16v
