My alternator belt is squealing sometimes when I pull away. I've tightened it slightly (always mindful of the alternator bearings) but the belt could really do with changing. However you can't get it off and back on without removing the power steering belt which appears to have no adjustment mechanism. Do you really just unbolt the pump to get the PS belt on and off?

I've done it before by unbolting the PS pulley (3 10mm bolts)

There are two adjustment bolts on the PS pump bracket, but I also used to do what Lee does.

Just done this and for the archives I'd just like to note that getting the alternator pulley back on (under tension from the new belt) is much easier if the first bolt you use is much longer (I used one about 30mm long) to just get the pulley located.

Now put the other two standard bolts in and get a few turns on them and then you can take the long bolt out and put the final correct bolt back in.
