Can I get some feedback : today I testdrove a 146 1.8 TS (w reg 2000) with supposedly 144bhp.
Compared with my old J reg (91) 1.7ie 8v (with 112bhp) the 146 seemed to lack any vitality and grunt ,especially from take off. Could this be down to the cat.?
Any comments would be appreciated
Thanks

It could be that but also the 146 is a much heavier car than the 33.
I believe that is why Alfa dropped the boxer motor as it didnt produce enough power for the newer heavier models. _________________ Presntly own

Even our 147 1.6 is slower in terms of acceleration than our 33 1.3. It's down to weight, the cat and probably the larger wheel diameter (acceleration). The boxer engine is very torquey and is far more versatile through the rev range than the TS.
Then again, the 33 seems a lot faster because it's less well built, you hear the engine more and really get to feel the road. All in all, a sorted 33 gives a better sensation on the road then any 146 or 147 TS. |
