lately my brake and turn signal lights have been acting very very weirdly (most probably cuz of the cold and moist temperature). Everytime i press the brakes, just the brakes, my alfa control system turns on and shows that my brakes are worn off, but they aren't, also the control system shows that my parking lights aren't working...but they are..now here's the funny part...when i went to check out what the brake lights do while my mate was pressing the brake i noticed that the left brake light works perfectly...but the the right one doesn't work and instead of it my left turn signal lights up?????now today somethin else happened...while i was giving a right turn i put the right turn signal...and all of a sudden my alfa control system started blinking Shocked ...to be more specific the light that the brakes are worn off started blinking...and when i went to check out what's going on with the back lights i realized that the back right turn signal isn't blinking but the right brake and parking lights are blinking...so is the left parking light.....so basically what's wrong...is it just a normal wiring problem and how can i fix it...becaus it's very dodgy drivin round like this...and i really wouldn want any cops to see me cuz they'll pull me off the road...and plus i never liked those big american cars with their brake blinkers

Hi,

It is for sure a poor earth connection problem - Simply stated the current cannot find it's way back to earth and it is finds it way through the neighbour lights thus blinking/lighting dimmly in a not very usual way.

The Alfa control light did very well its job since it could not find the same "amount of current" coming from or going to itself.

You can take out the contact plate located in the back of the rear lights (the place where the bulbs are located) and clean the out using sandpaper and/or alcohol. You may see a coat of rust/or white dust which is attribued to moisture; this is the cause of many problems ...

Regards,

There are three earth points you can clean and probably will do the job, there's one in front of you heather installation, basicly the place where the - pole of your battery is attached to, there are two pieces of thread on the LHS of the car (in LHD car), these two unther bonnet in the "battery case" or how do you call that spot? The third one is situated untherneath the thrunk carpet on the left side of the spare wheel. Just rub them clean with some sand paper, and some battery grease may protect them from oxidating again. There's an earth point to on top of the engine near the distributor but it's a pain in the ass to get to without removing the intake manifold and in my case it wasn't necessary, first three spots did the job.

Succes

bad earthing in rear light clusters. Dont think he pops round here much if at all, but my friend dave who had a 16v cloverleaf had his indicators stop working when braking (which led to right, im going to turn off, wait, wait, wait till everyone has seen the indicator, BRAKE! TURN!) Anyway, that was due to the tracks in the rear light clusters being corroded.
