Just before christmas my series 3 cloverleaf developed a loud rattle/knock from the left hand side of the engine block and near the crank. I had a serious loss of power and begun to smoke, I guessed my big end had gone or worse. It is off the road now and Im reduced to driving the missus' Clio .
Does anyone in south west england know of a 16 V engine going spare or of a decent breaker who has alfas |

Sorry I don't know of an engine, but if you are going to break yours, I would be interested in the inlet camshafts if they are in A1 condition.
If you are interested in rebuilding youe engine, I have a spare crank in A1 condition and you can get bearings for about £25 for big end shells and £18 for mains.
Cheers,

I know of a scrappy with a front ended 16v in it.
As far as I know the engine is good and when I looked at it it didnt look
as though it was damaged externally.
I pass by every day I will call in tomorrow and check its still there. _________________ Presntly own

I have a 16v botton end ie minus heads, If this is any use to you let me know. It was running fine until a cambelt tensioner seized and broke the belt. It has done about 90,000 miles but has been run on Selenia synthetic. |

How slack am I?
Many excuses but none are adequate so I apologise.
I've just got around to getting to the bottom of my rumblings.
One big end shell shredded into thin foil and the neighbouring main suffering from the added extra stress. Not as bad as I thought but still pretty bad.
I definately need to regrind the big end journal on my crankshaft now before rebuilding, does anybody know of any good engine reconditioners in the westcountry or Mark P do you still have your A1 crank.
Cheers
